Top seeds advance in boys volleyball tourney

The top seeds advanced to today's quarterfinals of the Nissan Boys State Volleyball Championships last night.

No. 1 Kamehameha, No. 2 Pearl City, No. 3 Kealakehe and No. 4 Maui made it out of pool play, but not everyone had an easy time.
Maui High's Sherwin Tomas (3) and Rodman Elegino (14) attempt a block against Waimea's Scott Rivera last night.
Waimea High of Kauai, Moanalua and Maui each went 1-1 in pool play, then the Menehunes won a coin toss to win Pool D.
Maui then defeated Moanalua 15-6 in a playoff for Pool D's second spot in the quarterfinals.
Pool C winner Iolani (2-0) and runnerup Kealakehe (1-1) of the Big Island are also in today's quarterfinals.
Also advancing out of pool play were: Pool B winner Pearl City (2-0) and runner-up Seabury Hall (1-1) of Maui.
Kamehameha (2-0) defeated Kalaheo (1-1) 15-3, 15-12 in the final match last night at Kamehameha to win Pool A.
Kalaheo, the pool runner-up, also advances to today's quarterfinals at the Blaisdell Center.
