RICHARD "DICKIE" CARTER, the Big Island police officer who was in charge of destroying millions of marijuana plants, and later helped prosecute a well-known crime figure, died Thursday at The Queen's Medical Center. See story.

JOSEPH "JOE" TIM FOOK CHAR, 74, of Honolulu, died Nov. 1, 2001. Born in Honolulu. Retired as a state Tax Department systems analyst. JOHN C. CHRAPE, 85, of Honolulu, died Nov. 2, 2001. Born in Bovey, Minn. A longtime resident and educator retired from the Hawai'i Community College system.
