PHILADELPHIA — Former Olympian Brian Viloria of Waipahu scored a first-round technical knockout over Sheldon Wile in a scheduled four-round flyweight bout here yesterday.

Waipahu’s Brian Viloria is overjoyed after beating Sheldon Wile of Halifax, Nova Scotia, in the first round.

Viloria, 20, a 112-pound right-hander, looked sharp and successfully landed three left hooks to the body that scored all three first-round knockdowns.

He pinned Wile, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, against the ropes for most of the fight with solid jabs that set up his left hooks.

The TKO came when Wile left himself open after missing a jab. Viloria, now 3-0 with two knockouts, followed up with two lefts, the second of which put his opponent down for the third time. The TKO came 1:55 into the bout.

Wile dropped to 2-2 as a flyweight.

Viloria will return to Los Angeles to train for the Nov. 23 bout with an as yet unnamed opponent at the Roseland Ballroom in New York as part of a benefit for the families of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Viloria, who made his pro debut May 15, is a former 1999 world amateur champion and 2000 Olympian.
