"In the Spirit of Unity, a Maui County Thanksgiving,'' co-sponsored by Maui County, will be held from 5:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, though attendees are asked to bring a canned good, a non-perishable food item or make a monetary donation to the Maui Food Bank.

"It is my hope that this Maui County Thanksgiving event will help strengthen the bonds within our community and be a great opportunity to share our love and aloha for each other,'' said Mayor James "Kimo" Apana.

"Thanksgiving is also a time for counting our blessings and showing our appreciation,'' he said.

A portion of the program will be dedicated to thanking military personnel and Maui County veterans as well as police, firefighters and emergency workers.

In addition to the famed country singer, the bill will include Maui County performers halau Na Lei Kaumaka O Uka, Gina Martinelli and Moloka'i's Raiatea Helm. The evening will end with a fireworks display.

There will be food concessions with an all-American menu of hot dogs, hamburgers and chili. Parking will be available at the stadium, as well as Keopuolani Park.

Event co-sponsors include the Maui Food Bank, Hospice Maui, Maui Ministerial Association, Maui Soda and Ice Works, Envisions Entertainment and Productions Inc., Rip Tide Records, Akaku: Maui Community Television, Pacific Radio Group, Village Audio and Maui Rents.
