HPU receives No. 4 seed in Pacific regional

The Hawai'i Pacific women's volleyball team is seeded fourth in the six-team NCAA Division II Pacific Region Volleyball Championship tournament, which starts Thursday at San Bernadino, Calif.

The Sea Warriors (18-4) open against fifth-seed Seattle Pacific at 5:30 p.m., Hawai'i time on Thursday. Other teams in the tournament are (seed): Cal State-San Bernadino (1), UC-San Diego (2), Western Washington (3) and Cal State-Los Angeles (6).

The winner of the HPU-Seattle Pacific match plays San Bernadino, on Friday. San Bernadino, ranked No. 5 nationally, and San Diego have first-round byes in the single-elimination tournament. The championship match is on Saturday.

The Sea Warriors, ranked 15th nationally this season, are the defending national champions.

• Chaminade sweeps Hilo: Audrey Brady had 14 kills and Valasi Sepulona added 10 kills and three aces to lead host Chaminade to a 30-24, 30-25, 30-13 win over Hawai'i-Hilo in the season finale for both teams. Chaminade finished 7-8 in the Pacific West Conference and 10-14 overall. Hilo was 5-10 and 15-15.

SURFING

• Triple Crown begins: The holding period for the first jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing begins tomorrow.

The G-Shock Hawaiian Pro will run on the three best days between tomorrow and Nov. 25 at Hale'iwa Ali'i Beach.

Two other contests will be held in conjunction with the Hawaiian Pro. The Roxy Pro for women and the Bear Hawaiian Pro for longboard surfers will also take place at Ali'i Beach sometime between tomorrow and Nov. 25.
