Tanakas honored by USTA/Hawai'i

The Tamotsu Tanaka family of O'ahu was named Family of the Year at the annual U.S. Tennis Association/Hawai'i Pacific Section Tennis Weekend Awards Banquet at Turtle Bay Resort.

Special guest speakers at the Oct. 27 awards dinner included former New York City mayor and current USTA Board member David Dinkins and USTA staff members D.A. Abrams and Jerome Jones.

Other award winners were: Jim Howe Sportsmanship: Chris James (O'ahu) and Janelle Kaloi (O'ahu); Member Club of the Year: Kapalua Tennis Garden; Presidents Award: Stan Nagamatsu (Maui); Special Service: Hermann Fernandez (Big Island) and Wailuku Junior Tennis Club (Maui); District Service: Ryan Ideta (East Hawai'i), Sachie Murata (West Hawai'i), Darlene Jones (Kaua'i), Saburo Matsushita (Maui), Van Lee (O'ahu) and Dan Tinsay American Samoa/Guam.

MEETING

Wallace to speak: University of Hawai'i men's basketball head coach Riley Wallace will discuss the upcoming season at the O'ahu Country Club on Dec. 6 at the Exchange Club of Downtown Ho-nolulu.

The meeting will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. Lunch is $15.
