After deliberating a little more than a day, a Circuit Court jury yesterday found Tyrone Galdones, 31, guilty of second-degree murder and two related firearms charges for the August 1999 slaying of 27-year-old James Zoucha in Nanakuli.

Tyrone Galdones, 31, will be sentenced Feb. 12

Deputy City Prosecutor Franklin Pacarro Jr. had described the shooting as an execution after an enraged Galdones found his girlfriend in bed with another man just weeks after the two had separated.

Deputy Public Defender Mary Helen Wong acknowledged Galdones shot Zoucha, but said Galdones' mind went blank after finding his girlfriend of 13 years and mother of the couple's two children with another man.

Galdones will face life in prison with the possibility of parole when he is sentenced Feb. 12, and a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years because a semi-automatic handgun was used to kill Zoucha. The Hawaii Paroling Authority will decide how much of the life sentence for the murder conviction Galdones must serve before he is eligible for parole.
