Community meetings slated on accountability

Advertiser Staff

Community meetings are scheduled throughout the state to gather public comments on a system for educational accountability for Hawai'i's public schools.

The Department of Education-sponsored meetings will take place in the following locations:

• Honolulu: tonight, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Washington Middle School cafeteria.

• Maui: Monday, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Washington Middle School cafeteria.

• Hilo, Hawai'i: Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hilo Intermediate School cafeteria.

• Lana'i: Nov. 26, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lana'i High & Elementary School cafeteria.

• Moloka'i: Nov. 28, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Kaunakakai Elementary School cafeteria.

Public response can also be submitted online by completing an electronic form posted at doe.k12.hi.us/accountability.

The meetings will cover expectations for schools, students, teachers and administrators.

The system is expected to reward success, support schools and individuals needing assistance, and apply sanctions when goals are not met.
