'Prairie Home' coming
Garrison Keillor will bring his popular "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show to Hawai'i for a live broadcast at 12:45 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Hawai'i Theatre.
The radio show has been to the beach before, Hawai'i Public Radio president and general manager Michael Titterton said. Live broadcasts were made from the Blaisdell Concert Hall in 1985 and 1986. Another Hawai'i connection is that the Kamehameha Schools Glee Club appeared on what was to have been the final "Prairie Home Companion" broadcast in July 1987. The show was later revived.
Tickets, at $25 to $65, are on sale now for HPR members only (call 955-8821 to ask about membership). Tickets go on sale to the public on Dec. 1. The box office: 528-0506.
No word yet on performers, but Keillor is a fan of guitar and choral music: some slack key and the Kamehameha Schools Glee Club again, perhaps?

A bull in a china shop is bad enough. A man in a lingerie shop is like a bull, only he's blushing. That's why the akamai ladies at Morgan Beret, the upscale lingerie shop in the Kahala Mall, devised a service called "Wish Upon Our Star." The woman selects five items at the store for her wish list. She gives the store the name and address of her mate. The store then sends him her list. It saves the embarrassment of giving a flannel nightie kind of gal a red negligee, or vice versa, and ensures the right size. Guys can also sign up for an invitation to the periodic "Men's Night," "featuring complimentary champagne and" ahem "informal modeling." But check with your significant other first.
