Hear the lore of the New World

Advertiser Staff

Children can feel soft deerskin, play a hand drum or taste buffalo jerky while listening to Thanksgiving tales of the American Indian community at Native American Story Circles through November at Native Winds Gift Gallery and Craft Supply in Kaimuki.

Store owner Wendy Schofield-Ching will read from Native American-authored children's books, including a story about Squanto, a Patuxet man who taught the settlers from the Mayflower how to survive in the New World. Other activities include examining beaded mocassins and listening to music.

Preschool story circles are 11 a.m. Tuesdays, and story circles for children of all ages are 3:30 p.m. Fridays. Story circles are free. For more information, call 734-8018.
