Advertiser Staff and News Services

After winning their fourth consecutive Western Athletic Conference championship on Sunday, the only way to go for the University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team was up.

The Wahine (26-4) moved up two spots to No. 9 in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 released yesterday.

Long Beach State (23-0) remained No. 1, receiving 64 of the 65 first-place votes. Nebraska (25-1) was No. 2 with the other first-place vote. Stanford (25-2) is No. 3, followed by Arizona (19-4) and Southern California (20-3).

The Wahine swept through the conference tournament, including a victory over host San Jose State in the finals. UH earned the WAC's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Wahine play in the Banker's Classic at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., this weekend.

Hawai'i opens on Friday against No. 13 Utah. No. 6 Pacific plays Fairfield (Conn.).
