Arrest made in Waipahu shooting

Police arrested a 25-year-old man today wanted for questioning in a fatal Waipahu shooting on Sunday.

Ryan Naleimaile was arrested for alleged warrant and weapons offenses just before midnight in Waikiki, police said. Crime Reduction Unit officers from Waikiki and Pearl City and Criminal Investigation Division gang detail officers assisted in the arrest. Police sought Naleimaile in connection with the shooting of Shane Takeuchi, who was shot at about 8:45 p.m. on Lumihoahu Street.

Police asked anyone with further information about the case to contact Detective Ted Coons at 529-3053.

'Aiea house fire displaces 5

A fire gutted the bottom level of a three-story home in 'Aiea Heights last night, displacing a family of five.

The first of two alarms rang at 10:37 p.m. when the blaze broke out in one of the children's bedrooms. Firefighters arrived at the 'Aiea Park Place address at 10:45 p.m., had the fire under control by 11:13 p.m., and extinguished it by 12:51 a.m.

The mother, 40, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The family — also including the father, 37, and three daughters, ages 17, 13 and 3 — declined Red Cross assistance and is staying with relatives.

Damages were set at $125,000 to the structure and $40,000 to the contents. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, said Capt. Richard Soo, fire department spokesman.

Taxi driver robbed on Round Top

Police are seeking a 45-year-old man who robbed a taxi driver at gunpoint last night at the top of Round Top Drive.

The suspect called the cab in the downtown area and gave the driver, 34, a Round Top address. When the driver discovered there was no house at the address, the suspect ordered him to stop and took the car and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The car was found abandoned soon afterwards, a few miles away, police said.

Suspect arrested in Pearl City robbery

The Pearl City crime reduction unit yesterday arrested a 34-year-old man for a robbery of a restaurant last July.

The crime occurred at 9:49 p.m. July 23 at Pearl City Chinese Restaurant, 803 Kamehameha Hwy. Two men had come in for takeout food and when the cash register was open, they asked for soda. As the cashier turned to get the soda, the suspect took money from the register and left.

The cashier followed, along with another employee, but he pushed her away and then fled.
