Winners of the 2001 Cades Awards for Literature are James D. Rumford and Cedric Yamanaka.

Rumford, who has a papermaking studio and press in Manoa, was honored "for his range of talents in bringing other cultures to readers through his translations, illustrations, writing and publishing." Cedric Yamanaka, whose first collection, "In Good Company" (UH Press, $14.95, paper) is just reaching stores, was honored for "his perceptive stories about everyday life in contemporary Hawai'i in local and national publications."

Awards will be presented in a 6 p.m. reception Nov. 29 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

The Cades Awards, given annually since 1988, were created by Charlotte and J. Russell Cades in memory of his brother, Elliott, a teacher and lover of literature.

Winners are chosen by judges from the Hawai'i Literary Arts Council.
