What are you thankful for today?

There are many things people are thankful for: family, friends, God, the paradise we all call home. But in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, the importance of these things has taken on new meaning for many of us. We’ve asked a few individuals on the streets of Honolulu how they feel about their lives, their world and their beliefs as we mark another Thanksgiving day.

"I'm just thankful that we're still able to travel and get around."

— Linda Brown, 53,business manager, Reading, Pa.

"I'm thankful that we're going to have our tests before Christmas break so we don't have to come back and study. I'm also thankful that all my family and friends are safe after the attacks in New York."

— Meridith Friedman, 15, student, Manoa

"Right now, I'm kind of sad for those people who were lost on Sept. 11, but I'm thankful that we're OK right now. I'm also thankful for my family, and that O'ahu is such a peaceful place. Hopefully, nothing will happen to us."

— Roy Angeles, 19, student, North Shore

"I'm thankful for living ... and seeing the whole family get together for Thanksgiving. It's nice that we can get along, and that we can bring everybody together to have dinner every year. I can show my kids what Thanksgiving is all about — being thankful for what's been given to you and for your rights."

— Anthony Flores, 34, customer service representative, Hawai'i Kai

"I'm thankful to be here because we were supposed to be on Canada 3000, which went under last week. We were supposed to get here last Monday. We were lucky to get tickets on Air Canada, or we'd have to cancel our whole vacation."

— David Mitchell, 33, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

"I'm thankful just to be here (after the Sept. 11 attacks). I don't know anybody there, but I was very sad when it happened. I'm thankful to be alive and here in Hawai'i."

— Natalie Jufer, 19, student, Switzerland

"I'm thankful for what God has provided me — a good life."

— Allan McGuire, 63, janitor, Waikiki
