King's Hawaiian Enterprises Inc. has completed the sale of its frozen foods unit to Florida-based Pinnacle Foods Corp. for an undisclosed price. King's Hawaiian's core bakery business was not included in the sale.
King's Hawaiian also said it is breaking ground on a 100,000-square-foot baking facility in Los Angeles and will be opening a second restaurant next year.
King's Hawaiian was started in 1950 by Robert Taira in a storefront bakery in Hilo. In 1961, he sold his Hilo Bakery and opened King's Bakery and Coffee Shop on King Street in Honolulu. Taira built a bakery facility in Torrance, Calif., in 1977, and soon after opened the company's first bakery and restaurant there.
