Schofield soldier held in Indiana

Indiana police have arrested a 21-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier who authorities said deserted the Army and was wanted in Honolulu for questioning in a theft case, as well as charges for Army desertion and drug offenses.

Joshua M. Miller was arrested Friday in Muncie, Ind., after CrimeStoppers officials in Honolulu contacted the CrimeStoppers unit there.

Miller is in federal custody for warrants and desertion. Miller is expected to be returned to Hawai'i to stand trial at Schofield Barracks, according to the police report. Miller then will be questioned by Honolulu Police Department detectives for theft charges in Waikiki.


Boy's family wants playmate charged

The family of an 8-year-old Weinberg Village boy yesterday filed a complaint with police to press charges of robbery against a 13-year-old boy playmate who allegedly took his money.

The incident reportedly happened between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday in the Waimanalo community. The teen took an undisclosed amount of cash from the younger child's wallet, according to police.


Two men sought in Kalihi heist

Police are seeking two men, ages 19 and 17, in a robbery Saturday at a Kalihi pool hall.

A 27-year-old man was in the bathroom at Shark's Pool Hall at 8:50 a.m. when he was grabbed by the older suspect, who placed a sharp object against his throat and demanded money. The second suspect searched the victim.

Both fled when a witness entered, grabbing the cash from the counter.


Police seeking suspect in brawl

Police are seeking a Polynesian male in an attempted murder and second-degree assault case that arose from brawl early Sunday outside a Dillingham Boulevard bar.

The victim, 24, got into an argument with the suspect at the Micronesian Lounge at about 3 a.m., police said. He walked outside to fight him, followed by his friends, one of whom grabbed the suspect.

Then the suspect's friends joined the fray, and the victim emerged from the fighting, trying to get away. Someone driving a red Jeep chased him, climbing the curb and sideswiping the victim as he fled, police said.


Waiawa facility escapee arrested

A man who escaped from the Waiawa Correctional Facility on Nov. 17 was arrested by police on Friday night in the Kane'ohe area.

Patrol officers in Windward Oahu arrested Joseph K. Lynch after they were sent to a suspicious person case at Keaahala Road. The officers recognized Lynch from CrimeStoppers release and arrested him.

Lynch has been convicted of seven residential burglaries and one auto theft since 1992, police said.


Man with knife robs video store

A Kukui Street video store was robbed Sunday morning by a knife-wielding man.

The man entered Alpha Video and approached the counter. He presented a note demanding money, showed a knife, took the money and fled.
