The Left Lane
Recycle eye shadow

Sometimes it's downright embarrassing — all those hardly-used eye shadows gathering mildew in our medicine cabinets or makeup kits. But it's still a pretty color and, hey, smoky eyes are back in style this season, so why not layer it on? Well, maybe not ...

Now there's a way to turn those seldom-used shadows into effective eyeliners. It's a new product created by makeup maven Paula Dorf called "Transformer."

The stuff comes in a little bottle that when mixed with eye shadow, turns the shadow into a stay-put eyeliner. I've tried it. It works. It says it's water-resistant, and it is. It doesn't come off until you want it to. Transformer sells for $14 at Sephora.
