Tip-Off
Dance Hall Crashers to perform at World Cafe

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Editor

Dance Hall Crashers — two women, three guys, lots of boisterous, ska-tinged, harmonious fun — return to Hawai'i for a concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 29 at the World Cafe.

The Berkeley-originated group features Elyse Rogers and Karina Denike, the vocalists; Jason Hammon, guitarist; Mikey Weiss, bassist; and Gavin Hammon, drummer.

Its latest album, "The Live Record — Witless Banter and 25 Mildly Antagonistic Songs of Love," has been a mirror of its current touring show and also a reflection of the no-pretense, no-angst manner of the band.

Yet there's a measure of fresh sarcasm and a biting attitude in the group's music, giving Dance Hall Crashers an edge and power.

Tickets, $16.50 in advance, slightly higher tariff at the door; on sale starting Saturday at Tower Records Kahala and Pearl Kai, Tower Video Kapi'olani, Cheapo Music Puck's Alley and Pearl Kai, Hungry Ear Kailua, Pearl Harbor Bloch Arena, ITT at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, the University of Hawai'i Campus Center and all Ticket Plus outlets, including Foodland and Sack 'N Save stores.
