Japanese veterans to visit Hickam next Thursday

Advertiser Staff

Nearly 100 Japanese veterans of World War II, including former fighter pilots, will observe the 60th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack by returning as friends and joining American veterans at events next Thursday, the Air Force said.

The Zero Fighter Pilots Association from Japan is visiting to pay homage to members of the U.S. military who were wounded or died during World War II.

At Hickam, Japanese pilots and American veterans will hold a panel discussion at 9:30 a.m. The event is open to base personnel and their families.

Other Japanese veterans will tour historic sites at Hickam.

At 11 a.m., the group will attend a wreath-laying ceremony to pay respects to those who died in the Dec. 7, 1941, attack.
