Christmas fun at Makiki park

The city Department of Parks and Recreation is presenting a free community Christmas celebration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Makiki District Park, 1527 Keeaumoku St.

The event will include refreshments, entertainment, children's games and visits with Santa Claus that begin at 10:30 a.m.

Tree sale helps mental health

The Mental Health Association is holding its 21st annual Benefit Christmas Tree Sale starting Saturday at the Pearl City Elementary School parking lot.

The sale will support the Mental Health Association in its efforts to improve services for Hawai'i residents recovering from mental illnesses.

The trees are Sheared Douglas firs — 5-6 feet ($44), 6-7 feet ($54), and 7-8 feet ($64), and tabletop — 2 to 3 feet ($23). Mixed evergreen, pinecone, and juniper berry wreaths are $29 each.

To order your Christmas tree and/or wreath, call Tobias Christmas Trees at 228-1002, and signify the order is to benefit the Mental Health Association in Hawai'i.

Customers can pick up their tree or wreath or purchase one on-site from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday to Dec. 16 at the Pearl City Elementary School parking lot along Waimano Home Road across from Daiei, or from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Central Middle School at the corner of Queen Emma Street and Vineyard Boulevard.

General to talk at GOP event

Brig. Gen. Richard Vercauteren will talk about his experiences and assessments of the Middle East at the Republican Party of Hawai'i's 15th and 16th districts meeting at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Kuapa Isle Clubhouse on Opihikao Street.
