EAST HONOLULU

School plans food drive

The Koko Head Elementary School Student Council is holding a food drive on campus from Monday to Dec. 12 to benefit needy families in the community, the Weinberg Village in Waimanalo, and St. George Church, also in Waimanalo.

Students are asked to bring in canned goods , other nonperishable food and toiletry items like toothpaste, paper goods and soap. Last year the students collected enough food to fill 30 boxes.

Center stages 'Holiday Hits'

The Hawai'i Kai Towne Center will be staging "Holiday Hits" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, with entertainment by the Movement Center, Hypersquad and the La Pietra Show Choir.

The Kaiser High School JV Pep Squad & Friends will model fashions from the center's merchants.

Crafters and the Hawai'i Kai Orchid Society also will be at the center.

Clothing drive held at school

A drive to benefit Cerebral Palsy of Hawaii will be accepting used clothing 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow at the Kalani High School gym.

All items will be donated to Cerebral Palsy of Hawaii.

Water main break closes school

Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews repaired two water main breaks yesterday, including one that forced the closure of Iolani School.

An 8-inch main broke at 4:09 a.m. on Kamoku Street near the intersection of Kapi‘olani Boulevard and Date Street. Nearby apartments and the school were affected. The main was repaired at about 6 p.m.

At Akahi Street in Kalihi, crews repaired a 6-inch main that broke about 6 a.m., shutting down water service for four homes and six businesses.


CENTRAL

Parades set for weekend

Three community Christmas parades will be held in Central O'ahu this weekend.

The Wahiawa Community and Business Association will hold its annual Wahiawa Town Santa Claus parade at 6:30 p.m. today.

The parade will run along California Avenue from Ka'ala Elementary School to North Cane Street near Wahiawa District Park.

About 30 community organizations are expected to march, said event chairman Gordon Kanemaru.

The Wahiawa Town and Shopping Center will hold Christmas-related events before and after the parade from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Tomorrow from 9 to 11 a.m., the Mililani Christmas parade will run from Mililani Shopping Center to the Town Center of Mililani. The route includes Kuahelani Avenue, Meheula Parkway and Lanikuhana Avenue. Both Mililani shopping centers will have Christmas-related events and entertainment.

Also tomorrow from 3 to 4:30 p.m. is the Gentry Waipi'o Christmas parade sponsored by the Gentry Waipi'o Community Association. The parade leaves the Gentry Waipi'o Shopping Center, heads up Waipi'o Uka Street to Ka Uka Boulevard, then down Uke'e Street back to the shopping center.
