Lee wins Waikoloa Open golf tourney

Despite a double-bogey 7 on his final hole, O'ahu golf pro Regan Lee held on to win the Waikoloa Open by one stroke yesterday.

Lee finished with a 4-over-par 76 at the Waikoloa Village course and his three-round total of 217 edged Olomana Golf Links' Casey Nakama, who closed with an ever-par 72.

Lee won $5,000 and Nakama took home $3,000.

Dean Prince won the senior flight by two strokes with 73—219 and Shannon Sibayan shot 78—230 to take low-amateur honors.

Amanda Wilson, 13, of Hilo beat a field of 57 men to take A flight honors by three strokes with 80—241. Rod Johnson won B flight with 88—253 and Steve Love captured C flight with 86—269.

• Chun the champ: Mark Chun shot a final-round even-par 70 yesterday to capture the championship flight of the Mayor's Cup at the Ala Wai Golf Course.

Chun finished at 4-under 136 to edge Troy Higashiyama (67) by one stroke and Mark West (70) by two.

Richard Noguchi won A flight with 71—146, Ed Brada Jones took B flight with 73—150, Alan Ching and Jonathan Young tied at 150 in C flight, and Mona Lee won the ladies flight with 74—147.

• Wahine routed: Lisa Wrightsman scored three goals as host Sacramento State trounced Hawai'i, 4-1, in a collegiate women's soccer match yesterday.

Wrightsman scored twice in the first half when Sacramento State (3-4) took a 3-0 lead.

Jennifer Starsiak scored at 77:25 for the Wahine (3-4), who play at California-Berkeley today.

• BYUH prevails: Ashley Moeai had 16 kills as Brigham Young-Hawai'i defeated host Hawai'i-Hilo, 30-22, 28-30, 30-15, 31-29, Saturday night in a Pacific West Conference women's volleyball match.

Tiffanie Ollison led Hilo with 12 kills.
