Put extra papers in inexpensive, stackable cardboard boxes. Consider storing non-essential papers and gear in another room or closet.
Try to keep printers, scanners, computers and other gear within arms' reach. This cuts down on walking and increases work efficiency.
Fellows Printer Work Stand ($29.99 at fellowes.com) has extra drawers to store paper, discs and other supplies.
Select an L- or U-shaped desk that can hold a PC or laptop, printer and scanner.
Jettison electronics you don't need. For instance, consider whether you still need a fax machine now that e-mail has become so popular.
Invest in machines that do double or even triple duty such as all-in-one units that can print, scan and fax. Brother, Canon and Sharp make highly rated models. While they save space, these units come with some caveats. For example, if your unit breaks down, you'll lose all the functions of three devices.
Think vertically. Use shelves and wall-mounted pocket folders to store compact discs, books and papers.
Regularly back up critical data and files on zip disks or recordable and rewritable CDs from a number of companies, including Yahama, Sony and QPS.
