San Francisco Ballet stars dance Oct. 20 at Blaisdell

"Ballet Stars from San Francisco," a one-night gala at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Blaisdell Concert Hall, will launch Ballet Hawai'i's three-show 25th anniversary season.

The first event will showcase 11 principal dancers from the San Francisco Ballet, including Joan Boada, from Cuba; Geunnadi Nedviguine, Yuri Possokhov and Roman Rykina, from Russia; Yuan-Yuan Tan, from China; Lucia Lacarra, from Spain; Damian Smith, from Australia; Cyril Pierre and Muriel Maffe, from France; and Joanne Berman and Tina LeBlanc, from the United States.

Honolulu's Amanda Schull, a member of the corps de ballet of the San Francisco Ballet, also will join the principals in her first performance since starring in the feature film, "Center Stage," last year.
The Ballet Hawai'i season also will include the holiday "Nutcracker" production at Dec. 21-23, with live music performed by the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, and "Project Ballet Theatre" from the American Ballet Theatre, March 13, featuring international sensations Rasta Thomas, Julie Kent from "Center Stage," and Kristin Boone.
All performances will be at the Blaisdell. Tickets: $25 to $55, on sale at the Blaisdell box office and Ticket Plus locations, starting Saturday for the San Francisco program; sales start Nov. 17 for "Nutcracker" and Feb. 9 for "Project Ballet." Charge by phone: 526-4400.
