Nine-year-old Heavenli Rudd, right, and 8-year-old Kazuyoshi Fukushima, of Lunalilo School in McCully, were thrilled to learn Oct. 1 that their school's Walking for Miles project raised $901. Heavenli, in fact, responded with a huge "wow." The students are donating the money they raised to the American Red Cross.

The Air National Guard F-15 fighter maneuvers to just 13 feet below the tanker for refueling. The Air Guard crews have flown refueling drills regularly, but since Sept. 11, they have been in "a higher state of readiness." See story.

The University of Hawai'i Warrior mascot pumped up the crowd Sept. 28 before UH took the field for its 2001 home opener against Rice University at Aloha Stadium. UH lost, 27-24, falling to 1-2 for the season. See story.
