The September 11th attack
Airline caterer to impose leave

Advertiser Staff

LSG Sky Chefs, an airline catering company, is putting some Honolulu employees on temporary leave without pay because of the loss of business following the Sept. 11 attacks, the company said in a letter to the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

George Hopkins, general manager of the company's Honolulu operations, said he could not say how many of the 150 Honolulu employees would be put on leave.

All LSG Sky Chef employees placed on temporary leave may be permanently laid off within 14 days after Oct. 28, the company said in its letter to the state labor department.

Yesterday, American Airlines also notified the state labor department about possible layoffs in Hawai'i. A letter to the department listed several Hawai'i sites, but did not specify numbers of employees that might be affected, or what action might be taken.
