California teams in ILH cross country meet

Advertiser Staff

Some of California's top cross country teams will be featured tomorrow at the Kamehameha Schools Invitational.

Dana Hills' girls team is ranked No. 10 in the country by one publication, and its boys team has a runner, Tyler Kasteroff, who reportedly is at the same level as Hawai'i's defending champion, Justin Peterson (Kamehameha) and runner-up, Todd Iacovelli (Punahou).

Yucaipa's girls are ranked No. 10 in California in Division I (large schools). Redlands East Valley and Trabuca Hills (Mission Viejo) are highly rated Southern Section programs, and Rocklin is a strong Division III program from Northern California.

The races will start and finish at Kamehameha's intermediate soccer field. Kamehameha girls coach Joel Truesdell said the course on Kapalama Heights is ideal for spectators, with runners visible between four and six times.

The schedule is as follows: intermediate boys, 9 a.m. (all-ILH); intermediate girls, 9:20 a.m. (all-ILH); JV boys, 9:45 a.m. (ILH, plus Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills and Rocklin); 2-mile girls, 10:10 a.m. (ILH, plus Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills, Rocklin and Redlands East Valley); varsity boys, 10:35 a.m. (ILH, plus Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills and Rocklin); 3-mile girls, 11 a.m. (ILH, plus Dana Hills, Trabuco Hills, Rocklin, Redlands East Valley and Yucaipa).

Strong showing: At the 98-team Stanford Invitational in California last week, Iolani's girls finished first in Division IV (smaller schools) and 12th overall.

The Raiders had seven runners finish among the top 70 in the 5,000-meter race — Kristin Shinkawa (10th, 20 minutes, nine seconds), Nicole Anderson (12th, 20:13), Christi Morrissey (16th, 20:48), Joleen Oshiro (17th, 20:48), Lauren Dignam (31st, 21:28), Rebecca Jones (37th, 21:39) and Jenna Ishii (70th, 23:17).

Football entrance: O'ahu Interscholastic Association executive secretary Dwight Toyama has announced that only two entrance gates will be open for tonight's games between Kailua and McKinley at Aloha Stadium, and seating will be limited to four sections for each school.

Kailua fans should enter through Gate 3 and sit in Sections F-K. McKinley fans should enter through Gate 2 and sit in Sections FF-KK.

The JV game is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the varsity game to start 25 minutes after the JV game's conclusion.
