190,000 employees suddenly go jobless

As Hawai'i continues to shed jobs — with more than 10,000 new unemployment claims filed in the weeks since the terrorist attacks — companies around the world are also struggling. A breakdown by industry of more than 190,000 job cuts attributed to the Sept. 11 attacks:

• KLM Royal Dutch Airlines: 2,500

• America West: 2,000

• Sabena: 2,000

• Midway: 1,700

• Virgin Atlantic: 1,200

• Frontier Airlines: 440
