A 47-year-old man died early yesterday morning after allegedly being kicked while trying to break up a fight at the Venus Nightclub near Ala Moana Center.

Police have arrested a 21-year-old Mililani man on charges of second-degree murder in the case.

Police said the victim worked as a doorman at the nightclub at 1349 Kapi'olani Boulevard.

The doorman was trying to break up an altercation between two men at the club entrance at 3:20 a.m., police said. He had one of the combatants in a headlock when the suspect allegedly kicked him in the chest.

The victim fell to the ground unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to Straub Hospital, where he died.

Club management could not be reached for comment.

The club usually stays open until 4 a.m.
