Hilo stuns No. 1 HPU in volleyball

Hawai'i Pacific's 42-match winning streak is over.

Tiffanie Ollison had 19 kills, and Sara Pilgreen and Emily Hutchinson each added 16 as Hawai'i-Hilo defeated No. 1 and defending national champion Hawai'i Pacific, 30-27, 16-30, 30-28, 27-30, 15-11, last night at Hilo Gymnasium.

The Vulcans also snapped the Sea Warriors' 33-match Pacific West Conference winning streak.

Hilo improved to 7-10 overall and 2-7 in the PacWest. Hawai'i Pacific dropped to 14-1 and 8-1.

The Sea Warriors fell four wins shy of tying Ferris State (Mich.) for the longest winning streak in NCAA Division II.

HPU has been ranked No. 1 for the past five weeks.

HPU outhit (.277-to.219), outblocked (11-9) and outdug (91-77) Hilo.
