Trade Winds

• Longtime Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i officer JAMES "JIM" C. TOLLEFSON has been named acting president and chief executive officer. He is past chamber chairman, 1999-2000; a seven-year member of its board of directors and an executive committee member. Prior to being named president, Tollefson was executive vice president with Bank of Hawai'i and its parent company, Pacific Century Financial Corp., and is a veteran of commercial and corporate banking industry management in California, Colorado, Arizona and Hawai'i.

ALAN C. RAKOV has been named director of marketing for the Honolulu Symphony. Rakov is former senior marketing manager for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and a member of the orchestra's contract negotiations team. He holds master's degrees in strategy and marketing as well as violin performance. At the Honolulu Symphony, he replaces Andy Wood, director of marketing since 1997.

STEPHEN SCHWENK has added management of a third Waikiki McInerny store to his responsibilities, now serving as manager of two in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and his latest, the Sheraton Waikiki store. The chain maintains 10 Waikiki properties in hotels and the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, as well as seven Neighbor Island hotel locations.

ROBIN S. MIDKIFF, a veteran executive of major U.S. banking institutions, has been named to head the Financial Management Group at First Hawaiian Bank. She will join the bank as executive vice president and member of the senior management committee. The Financial Management Group oversees trust administration, investment management, employee benefits plan management and the bank's proprietary line of mutual funds. Midkiff was most recently vice president for business development at the local office of JP Morgan Private Bank (previously, Chase Manhattan Private Bank); and before that, with Wells Fargo Bank and its subsidiaries.

• First Hawaiian Bank has also announced the following appointments: T. MARK McCAMLEY, former FHB senior investment officer, promoted to vice president, Bishop Street Capital Management; DREW G. WADDELL, former CCI/Triad sales manager, joining FHB as assistant vice president, Commercial Card Department; CONSTANCE G. OSHIRO, most recently with Finance Investment Ltd., joining the bank as real estate officer, Trust Real Estate Services; and KIMBERLY K. GREENLY, most recently product management analyst with FHB, promoted to product management analyst officer, Deposit Products Department.

DONALD EDMUNDSON has been named chief operating officer of United Laundry Services Inc., overseeing all aspects of operations, including linen processing, technical service and distribution. He is a former chief operating officer with Washex Machinery, Texas, and past chief operating officer and vice president of Boewe Passat USA.

ALANI APIO has joined communications and marketing consultancy Communications-Pacific Inc. as director of its civic affairs and community building group. Apio is known for his participation in a variety of Native Hawaiian-oriented discussions and projects.

KENDRA IKEDA has been named general manager of The Cherry Co., importer and wholesaler of Japanese groceries and liquor.

DR. WALLACE F. CHONG III has joined his father, Dr. Wallace Chong Jr., and sister, Dr. Carolyn Chong, at their Big Island dental practice at 74 Ponahawai St., Hilo.

FRED FILIPPI has been named president and chief executive officer of Mainland-to-Hawai'i tour operator, Creative Leisure International. PETER HENZE, who held those posts since 1972, continues as chairman and owner.

LEE J. STRUNK, a 17-year veteran of O'ahu Gas Service, has been named O'ahu-based account executive in The Gas Co.'s sales and marketing department. Kaua'i Electric has named DAVID MORGAN vice president and general manager, responsible for all company operations; ALTON H. MIYAMOTO, director of administration, leading KE's support services and regulatory affairs; and GARY PEERS, promoted to production manager, based at Port Allen, Kaua'i, and responsible for KE's production facilities and operations.

KC COLLINS has joined Murata Creative Inc. as director of marketing. She was previously marketing and communications manager for HTH Corp., editor of Fore 'n Aft magazine, and associate publisher of This Week Magazines.
