HILO, Hawai'i — Almost a year after the devastating floods of Nov. 1-2, four restoration projects are finally under way.

A grant totaling $138,260 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be used to repair the three soccer fields on Hilo's bayfront.

Some roadwork has been completed, including a $4.8 million replacement bridge along Hilo's Komohana Street and a $6.3 million project on Belt Road near Pahala.

Projects moving ahead with FEMA money are:

• Akolea Place, a 40-day repaving and excavation project that started yesterday.

• 'Uhaloa Street near Kaumana Drive, a 40-day project.

• Waiakaloa Gulch on North Road in Wood Valley Homesteads, a 30-day clean-up.
