Woman robbed near Ala Moana

Police are searching for a man who robbed a woman Monday night near Ala Moana.

They said she had gotten off a bus at Kaheka and Liona streets at 10 p.m. and was walking makai on Kaheka Street when a man approached and demanded her wallet. He reached into her purse, took the wallet and fled.

The woman was not injured.


Reward offered for backpack

An Australia woman whose backpack was stolen Monday at Poka'i Bay is offering a reward for the return of some of the items.

Lydia Brichta, a resident of Sydney, hiked to Kaena Point that morning and decided to stop at Poka'i Bay on her way back to Honolulu at about 2 p.m. She put her red-and-brown backpack down on the grass and went for a look at the ocean. When she returned a few minutes later, the backpack was gone.

Brichta asks that anyone with information on any of the items to call 949-8861.


Unclaimed items to be auctioned Saturday

The Honolulu Police Department will auction jewelry, cameras, stereo equipment, tools and other unclaimed items Saturday at 9 a.m. in the parking lot at Hotel and Kealamakai Streets behind HPD headquarters.

Jewelry may be viewed beginning at 8 a.m. Other items will be displayed during the auction.

Buyers should be aware that most of the items are used. All items will be sold as is, on a cash-only basis.

No guarantees or warranties will be given.

The police and the City and County of Honolulu do not guarantee the authenticity of items bearing brand names. All sales are final.


Police seeking volunteer actors

Honolulu police are looking for volunteer actors to play the roles of crime victims and suspects for recruit training. Those interested may apply Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at HPD's training academy at 93-093 Waipahu Depot Street. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older. A valid photo ID is required.
