WAC honors UH runner Smith

University of Hawai'i senior Cheryl Smith has been named the Western Athletic Conference Runner of the Week for her course-record victory at the Willamette Invitational 5K in Salem, Ore., last weekend.

Smith was timed in 16 minutes, 58.33 seconds.

Smith, a transfer from S.U.N.Y.-Cortland in New York, has won three of the Wahine's six cross country races this season.


SAILING

• UH triumphs: The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team, ranked seventh in Sailing World's latest college poll, won the Stoney Burke Intersectional last weekend in Berkeley, Calif.

Bryan Lake and Jennifer Warnock led UH by winning the A division race.

Elsewhere, the UH women placed ninth at the Navy Fall Women's Intersectional in Annapolis, Md.


TENNIS

• Real winners: Hawai'i Pacific University players Loni Matsunaga and Fleurette Miranti won the women's doubles championship of the 49th Dillingham Championships at Punahou Monday.

Matsunaga and Miranti defeated Vanne Akagi-Bustin and Nicole Sakai, 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
