State honors top workers, managers
Advertiser Staff
Gov. Ben Cayetano has named Liane Moriyama, administrator of the Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center, as state manager of the year.
Moriyama oversaw a redesign of the state's criminal history record information system, and supervised the launch of the state's sex offender Web site.
The governor also named Raymond DeSmet Jr. the state employee of the year. DeSmet is an engineer with the state Department of Accounting and General Services, and Cayetano said his work to improve air conditioning in state buildings saved the state $250,000 last year alone.
Cayetano named the Kona Airports Division Maintenance Unit in the Department of Transportation the Team of the Year. That crew ran a program they called "Keahole Kleanup" that removed more than 250 tons of steel from the airport area at no cost to the state.
