For the curious and for the prospective home-buyer: This is the second and final weekend of the annual Parade of Homes, a free peek at what's new in home design and decorating. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 22 sites around O'ahu and Maui. 847-4666.

BEER FEST: Oct. 19

Fans of food, sudsy liquids, jazz and blues should mark their calendars for The Great Diamond Head Beer Fest at the Waikiki Shell. Coffees and brewed soft drinks in addition to dozens of beers will be available for tasting, along with some snacks. Food from Sam Choy's, Gordon Biersch, Brew Moon and other eateries will be offered at $5 per prepared pupu plate. 5:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 19. $25 general, $22 advance, for those 21 and older; available at the Blaisdell box office and Ticket Plus outlets. 526-4400.

CONCERT: Oct. 20

Island favorite Ho'okena, specialists in traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music, celebrates its 15th anniversary and its latest compact disc, "Treasure," in a concert at the Honolulu Academy of Arts theater. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20. $15. 532-8700.

BALLET: Oct. 20

"Ballet Stars from San Francisco," featuring 11 principal dancers from the Bay Area troupe and Hawai'i's own Amanda Schull, who is a member of the corps de ballet, takes place at the Blaisdell Concert Hall. It's part of Ballet Hawaii's 25th anniversary celebration. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20. $35-$55 (discounts for students, seniors and military; groups of 15 or more will receive at 10 percent discount); at the box office and Ticket Plus outlets. 526-4400.

DANCE: Oct. 20-21

"Pulse," a dance concert by Tangentz Performance Group, explores the avant-garde Japanese dance form Butoh at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii Art Gallery, 2454 S. Beretania St. The concert also will include performances by students of JCCH Butoh classes and guest artist Maureen Freehill. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20-21. $15 general, $12 advance, $10 JCCH members, $8 seniors and students. 988-4290.

CONCERT: Oct. 21

The Cypress Hill Smoke-Out, a daylong festival of hard-charging music featuring the headliner, Pennywise, NOFX, Suicidal Tendencies and Guttermouth, takes over Kualoa Ranch. (The originally announced Kottonmouth Kings are no longer part of the bill.) The 14th annual Great Kitchen & Bath Tour offers viewers a peek at the latest trends as homes are showcased in Waikiki, Nu'uanu, Kahala, Portlock, Hawai'i Kai and Kailua. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 21. Keali'i Reichel, musician, kumu hula and chanter, kicks off the Hawai'i Theatre's "Hana Hou!" Hey, kids of all ages! That annual haunting time of the year is approaching. TGIF is planning to run a calendar of events Oct. 26. Among the treats already scheduled are:

The legendary mime Marcel Marceau, makes his Hawai'i debut at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
