Kailua added to Meals on Wheels

Hawai'i Meals on Wheels has a new route in Kailua to serve hot lunches to frail elders and individuals with disabilities who are homebound.

The private, nonprofit organization has a corps of volunteers who deliver the hot meals Monday through Friday, including holidays.

Hot lunches are delivered on 20 routes extending from Kalihi to Hawai'i Kai and Kane'ohe to Kailua. Hot dinners also are available in Kaimuki and Waikiki.

Clients are asked for a contribution to help pay for the cost of the meal, which in Kailua is about $4.80, said Diane Terada, executive director of Hawai'i Meals on Wheels.

"But once clients become eligible, we provide the meal regardless of whether they can pay," Terada said.

For information about the meals or to volunteer to deliver meals, call 988-6747.
