Show Biz
Amy Gilliom added to Cazimero holiday show

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Editor

SHOW BITS: Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom has been added to "A Cazimero Christmas," Robert and Roland Cazimero's yuletide outing, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6, 7 and 8, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 9, at the Hawai'i Theatre. She replaces the earlier-announced Willie Kalikimaka (otherwise known as Willie K), who will do a Maui Christmas show instead ...

And Frank DeLima has been asked to join "A Merry Christmas with Nabors and Friends," the Jim Nabors holiday extravaganza, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 2, at the Hawai'i Theatre. He apparently replaces Robert Cazimero. Others still aboard: Emma Veary, Karen Keawehawai'i and the Huber Marionettes. Matt Catingub conducts the Honolulu Symphony ...

The aforementioned Catingub, pops conductor for the symphony, was in New York last weekend, performing with his Big Kahuna and the Copa Cat Pack. They joined singer Rosemary Clooney at the Westbury Music Fair on Long Island and appeared last Friday on "The View." Clooney heads to Honolulu and will join Catingub and the symphony in a pops program Nov. 16 and 17 at Blaisdell Concert Hall ...

ITEMIZATIONS: Manu Boyd and his Halau o ke 'A'ali'i Ku Makani revealed both their kahiko and 'auana styles in waves of eye-filling artistry last Saturday night at the Hawai'i Theatre. Ho'okena, headlining the second act, called upon its unscheduled regular dancer, Nani Dudoit (wife of Ho'okena member Horace Dudoit), who got up from the audience to perform hula, as did Boyd's hula brothers (Michael Casupang and Karl Veto Baker) from the Halau Na Kalamei era. Opening act Kahikina from Hilo shared the limelight with Lopaka Kanahele whose falsetto voice (and wild hair) delighted the crowd. Yes, he's a kin of the Pua Kanehele 'ohana; among the show-bizzers in the audience: Keali'i Reichel (who is on the "Ho'okena Christmas" show at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Hawai'i Theatre) and Emma Veary ...

Musician John Kolivas' "Remembrance" tribute is being released shortly, but original plans to feature Teresa Bright singing with the Honolulu Jazz Quartet changed at the last minute, with Anita Hall now delivering Robert Pennybacker's lyrics. When the tune was performed by the HJQ on the KHON-2 morning show last Friday, Pennybacker sang his words. It was a homecoming, since Pennybacker used to be Channel 2's marketing director ...

AROUND 'N' ABOUT: Jason Kina, the show entrepreneur, is back in town after a whirlwind Las Vegas trip, where he saw Janet Jackson and Madonna in concert (and yes, there's still a gleam in his eyes). He also caught up with Tony Ruivivar and the Society of Seven at the Las Vegas Hilton reported that the group has been packing 'em in and earning standing ovations for their "God Bless the USA" and "America the Beautiful" segment, which has been re-inserted in their show in light of the events of Sept. 11.

Ruivivar and fellow SOS founder Bert Sagum were to remain in Vegas for the Monday opening of the Society of Seven Las Vegas, which succeeded them at the Hilton. The SOS were to reopen last night at the Outrigger Waikiki's Main Showroom ...

Tsk, tsk: Poor ticket sales (at least that's what local performers were told) forced the cancellation of "Honolulu Music Fest 2001" (with Stephen Bishop) last Saturday at the Waikiki Shell ...
