Hawai'i donations sought for Mighty Mo

Advertiser Staff

The Mighty Mo needs more money, said the people who care for the USS Missouri Battleship Memorial yesterday in Pearl Harbor.

With $2 million already raised, the memorial association wants to bring in another $1 million in Hawai'i by year's end before going nationwide with an appeal for another $7 million to pay for interactive exhibits, educational programs and other improvements.

Former President George Bush, honorary chairman of the association board, will appear in a television announcement in the national "All Hands on Deck" campaign.

Local donors will help Hawai'i's economy by supporting further development of the ship as a tourist attraction, according to Duncan MacNaughton, vice chairman of the Battleship Missouri Pacesetter Division.
