The public is invited to join the Wai'anae community for a day of fun and learning at the Westside Youth Festival 2001, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday at the Wai'anae Mall.
A goal of the free event, themed "Victory Over Violence, Youth For Peace," is to showcase the talents of Wai'anae youth, said Toshi Edwards, an event spokeswoman. "The ultimate goal is to have a drug-free, violence-free, abuse-free and trash-free community," she said. Highlights include games, a silent auction and entertainment; a storytelling booth, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; an opportunity to purchase items from young entrepreneurs, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and a disco, 8-10 p.m. A haunted house will be open 7-10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday; admission is $2 for adults and children.
