The Left Lane
Read all about it

Artist Eddy Y's works have graced note cards, aloha shirts and Hawai'i collectibles. Now he's designed the cover for the official 21st Annual Hawai'i International Film Festival program, available at Blockbuster Video and Starbucks locations statewide — essential reading should you plan to take in one of the 150 films from 26 nations to be screened between Nov. 2-11 at various sites in Honolulu. Neighbor Island play dates follow. Film capsules, a list of movies nominated for Golden Maile Awards, seminars and more are also in the guide.

An order form for tickets can be delivered to the box office at Signature Theatres at Dole Cannery; faxed to 424-4986, phoned in to 528-HIFF (4433); or online at www.hiff.org. Members of HIFF 'Ohana can order tickets now; public sales start Friday. The programs are also available at the box office.

Calling all Cinderellas

A lucky woman can be Cinderella of Waikiki for a night — if the shoe fits.

DFS Galleria Waikiki, in conjunction with the French Festival, is holding a Search for Cinderella Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 1 on the store's second floor. A pair of "magical" Christian Dior shoes — leather, not glass — will be there for any woman 18 and older to try on. If the shoe fits, she will qualify for a drawing to become Cinderella. The winner will be announced at 9:15 p.m. Cinderella will win: two tickets to the French Festival gala; the Christian Dior shoes to keep; a Christian Dior gown, tiara and evening bag to wear for the event; a limo ride; and makeup and hair by professionals. A date with Prince Charming will also be awarded unless the winner chooses to provide her own prince.

Though DFS will not reveal the shoe size, suffice to say, size 9s need not apply.

Tia's goin' to the dogs

Singer-actress Tia Carrere is going to the dogs next year. Carrere, a Hawai'i native, is part of a Ralston Purina's 2002 Dog Chow Incredible Dogs Calendar, pictured as the May personality with her family of shar-peis.

Carrere is joined by other dog lovers — including Michelle Kwan, Kelsey Grammer, Sarah Ferguson, Chris Evert, Wynonna Judd and Dan O'Brien — who support ARF, Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation. The calendar ($5) may be ordered through a website, www.dogchow.com
