Teen charged in Ma'ili death

Police yesterday charged a 17-year-old Ma'ili boy in connection with a beating of a man across from Ma'ili Beach Park who was later run over by a car and killed last year.

Police charged the boy with second-degree murder and sent him to a detention home.

Police first arrested the boy and a 19-year-old Ma'ili man last December in connection with the death of Manu Brown.

Police said the suspects admit they beat the victim on July 18 of last year and left him in the street outside his Farrington Highway home across from Ma'ili Beach Park, but they say Brown was conscious when they left.

Brown, 43, later died after being run over by a car while lying in the street.
