"Surf Girls," a Universal Pictures/Imagine Entertainment feature film, will hold an open casting call for beach-type extras, as well as a young female lead with attitude, for a two-month shoot on the North Shore starting Dec. 12.
Margaret Doversola, veteran casting director, will hold auditions for surfer types this weekend and next at the Turtle Bay Resort (formerly the Hilton).
"We're not sure exactly how many extras we'll need, but I'm sure on some days, the call will be for 100 to fill the beach," said Doversola, who is the Hawai'i casting director for the project.
Singer Hoku Ho is in line for a featured part, but the producers also hope to cast, possibly through open auditions here, a girl age 14 to 16 to portray a rambunctious character. "The role is of a brat of a kid with bad attitude and bad grades," Doversola said.
Auditions will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday, and again next Friday and Saturday at the resort's Bayview Lounge.
Applicants should bring a photograph, Doversola said. Sign-ups will be done on site.
Doversola has completed filming 120 surfers the past few days for consideration for roles. Other professional surfers unable to participate in the recent filming and interested in movie work should call to set up an appointment, she said.
John Stockwell will direct the project, with location filming expected through mid-March. His most recent directorial credit is the Kirsten Dunst film, "Crazy/Beautiful." He also was the screenwriter for "Rock Star," and has appeared in a variety of movies as an actor, including "Top Gun," "Radio Active Dreams," "My Science Project" and "Stag."
