FILM FESTIVAL: Nov. 2-11

The 21st annual Hawaii International Film Festival comes into focus Nov. 2-11 on O'ahu, Nov. 7-11 on the Big Island and Nov. 9-11 on Maui and Kaua'i. More than 150 films from 26 countries — 12 world premieres and 55 U.S. premieres — will be part of the festival, including the opening-night film "To End All Wars," starring Kiefer Sutherland and Robert Carlyle and filmed on Kaua'i. Program guides are available at theaters, HIFF's box office at Dole Cannery, Blockbuster video stores and Starbucks coffee outlets.

  • On O'ahu: Advance tickets for the general public available beginning Oct. 29; now for HIFF members. $7 general, $6 HIFF members, students, senior citizens, military, Pacific Islanders in Communications members. Opening night fund-raiser: $25. 528-3456.

CONCERT: Nov. 2

"Okwangdae" ("Five Clowns Play"), a traditional masked dance of Korea, kicks off a U.S. tour at the Earle Ernst Lab Theatre at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa. "Okwangdae" employs a nationally treasured art form that blends music, drama and dance, and is unique to Kosung village, South Kyongsan province. The clowns of the title refer to the directions east, west, south, north and center. CONCERT: Nov. 3

Black Eyed Peas, the trio whose hip-hop music blends soul, jazz and Latin elements, will perform an all-ages show at World Cafe with guests Todd G, EG, Jr. Boogaloo & Aiga. 8 p.m. Nov. 3. $18 advance; at Tower Video, Tower Records (Kahala, Pearl Kai), Hungry Ear (Kailua), World Cafe, Cheapo Music (Puck's Alley, Pearl Kai). 599-4450.

CONCERT: Nov. 10

FESTIVAL: Nov. 11

The second annual Honolulu Harbor Festival gets under way in the area between Aloha Tower Marketplace and the Hawaii Maritime Museum. Among the events will be a Tugboat Hula Contest, a Coast Guard Search and Rescue demonstration, ship tours, a keiki treasure hunt, tours around the harbor and other family events. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 11. SUNDAY BRUNCH: Nov. 11

The next Brunch on the Beach, takes place on Kalakaua Avenue between Ka'iulani and Lili'uokalani avenues in Waikiki. Artificial grass will once again cover the roadway; brunchers are invited to sit at tables under big blue umbrellas and enjoy food (purchased with scrip) and entertainment (The Brothers Cazimero will headline the event). 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 11. CONCERTS: Nov. 14-15

"P.D.Q. Bach and Peter Schickele: The Jekyll and Hyde Tour" comes to Honolulu and Maui. On this tour, Schickele, host of public radio's "Schickele Mix," combines his own "civilian" persona with his alter ego, P.D.Q. Bach. He is joined by soprano Michele Eaton and tenor David DÄsing. The presentation is part of Hawai'i Public Radio's 20th birthday celebration. Details:

DANCE: Nov. 16-18

The "Annual Dance Concert: Bigger Than Life!" by the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Department of Theatre and Dance, takes the Kennedy Theatre's mainstage for one weekend only. It's a multimedia event featuring pieces by UH faculty that blend computer/video technology and dance. 8 p.m. Nov. 16-17, 2 p.m. Nov. 18. $12 general, $9 seniors, military, faculty and staff, $7 non-UH students and children, $4 UHM students with valid ID; on sale Nov. 5. 956-7655.
