New building for St. Ann's Church

St. Ann's Church in Kane'ohe will dedicate its new building and celebrate its 160th anniversary at a Mass led by Bishop Francis DiLorenzo at 4 p.m. tomorrow in the church at 46-129 Ha'iku Road.

Some 16 priests will celebrate the Mass with DiLorenzo, and a 60-member choir will provide music.

The Rev. Bill Moore, who designed the building's stained-glass windows, will be present, as will a nun from Ecuador who accompanied a wooden statue of the Lady of Peace carved in her country.

Following the service will be a luau with food donated and prepared by parishioners for 2,000 people. Tickets for the luau are sold out.

The $4.8 million church seats 600 and is designed to reflect the Ko'olau mountain range that overlooks the community.

Hope Chapel offers prizes

Hope Chapel Kane'ohe Bay is expecting as many as 1,000 people at its free Kane'ohe JAM — Jesus And Music — from 2 to 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Windward Mall parking lot next to He'eia Elementary School.

There will be entertainment, activities and door prizes, including free groceries for a year worth $2,400.

The community-wide event is intended to be both a spiritual and practical way to support residents in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the resulting economic difficulties in Hawai'i.

The event will also include free bicycle and skateboard repair, family portraits, career counseling, haircuts, food, crafts and games.

All are welcome.
