Rearing toddlers multilingually

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol
Advertiser Staff Writer

Treat your children to the sights and sounds that represent Hawai'i's unique blend of cultures in "Baby Hawaii Lullabies," a video geared toward children ages 6 months to 5 years old.

The 24-minute video features lullabies and traditional songs in 12 languages: Hawaiian, Tagalog, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Puerto Rican, Tahitian, Visayan, Portuguese, English, Thai and Samoan.

Exposing infants to different languages in their first year can enhance their learning of languages, said the video's producer and director, Rochelle Ashana, of Rochelle Ashana Productions. The video ($17.99) and a lyrics pamphlet ($2) are available at Borders locations and at Native Books & Beautiful Things.
