Interactive CD features Pacific art
Who knows about Pacific arts besides Pacific people, that is? Not enough, say the folks at Pacific Resources for Education and Learning and the Consortium for Pacific Arts and Culture. That's why the nonprofit groups have developed "Art of the Pacific Islands," an interactive CD-ROM collection of art from Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia.
The images come from the Bishop Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution and other fine collections.
The CD sells for $39.99 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts gift shop (call 441-1400). It's already being distributed to educators throughout the region, but orders have been coming in from Oklahoma and Kansas, too, said PREL director Lori Phillips: "It should make the Pacific more reachable."
