Bankoh to sell 25 branches

Bank of Hawaii said yesterday it has entered into exclusive negotiations to sell its French Polynesia and New Caledonia operations to France-based Caisse Nationale des Caisses d'Epargne. Bank of Hawaii said details will be announced once an agreement is reached.

Bank of Hawaii's operations in French Polynesia include 17 branches and about 265 employees. In New Caledonia it has eight branches and about 190 employees.

The planned sale is part of Bank of Hawaii's strategy of selling off businesses outside its core market.


Wal-Mart store to open on Maui

Wal-Mart will have a presence on every one of the four major islands when the company opens its first store on Maui tomorrow.

The Kahului store will be the discount retailer's sixth in the state. O'ahu and the Big Island have two stores each, while Kaua'i has one.

The Maui store is off Dairy Road near the Kahului Home Depot store.
