Man injured in Mo'ili'ili shooting

A shooting outside a Mo'ili'ili 7-Eleven yesterday sent a 29-year-old Beretania Street man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his right temple.

The injured man was in serious condition at the Queen's Medical Center. The bullet grazed him, police said.

Police said the 29-year-old man was sitting in his car at the gas pumps outside the 7-Eleven at 2646 South King St. at 2:34 a.m. when he got into an argument with the gunman, an acquaintance. The gunman shot the man in the head with a small caliber handgun.

Maui woman stable after 100-foot fall

WAILUKU, Maui — A 22-year-old woman was in stable condition yesterday after falling 100 feet from a scenic lookout above the East Maui community of Wailua.

The woman, a Maui resident who remained hospitalized last night, was rescued by Maui Fire Department crews at 3:13 a.m.

A fire department spokesman said the woman's boyfriend called authorities at 12:35 a.m. shortly after the woman slipped from the remote lookout, which sits off the Hana Highway and looks down on a picturesque taro-growing region.

Rescue personnel retrieved the victim after repelling down a cliff face. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance with apparent internal injuries.

Police and the FBI are looking for a man who robbed the Wahiawa branch of Bank of Hawai'i yesterday morning.

The robber was in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-feet-7, 175 pounds with a medium build. Police said he had a tan complexion, dark crewcut hair, and wore a light-colored hat and light-blue long-sleeved shirt. Call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.

Ex-officer wanted in airport case

A former Honolulu police officer faces a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a police officer after allegedly lying to a Hawai'i airport worker about her employment and boarding a plane with a gun Sunday night.

Police said the 29-year-old woman checked in at the Honolulu International Airport for American Airlines Flight 298 bound for Los Angeles at 9:15 p.m.

As her baggage was X-rayed, a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol was discovered. The woman told the airport employee that she was an officer with the Narcotics/Vice Division of the HPD.

She provided a Hawai'i driver's license and a HPD firearms qualification card as identification, but did not provide an HPD badge or HPD photo identification. A state narcotics enforcement agent vouched for the woman being a Honolulu police officer, and she was permitted to board the plane.

Police said the woman resigned from the department Oct. 16.

The woman was detained when the plane landed at Los Angeles International Airport. She was questioned by the FBI and released. She was allowed to keep her gun.

Honolulu police said they are seeking an arrest warrant on the woman for impersonating a police officer.

Man charged in Kaua'i slaying

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Police yesterday charged a Nawiliwili man with murder in the death of Brent Kerr, whose body was found near the Coco Palms Hotel last week.

William McCrory, 45, was one of three suspects questioned late Sunday. He was arrested yesterday morning on one count of second-degree murder.

He was expected to be arraigned today. The two other men were released.

Kerr, 44, who frequented the Nawiliwili area, was found dead Friday afternoon across the highway from the former Sea Shell restaurant.

Police gave no further details.

Hilo brothers face child porn charges

Two Big Island brothers are each facing up to 15 years in prison for alleged possession of child pornography.

Jed Abregana, 31, of Hilo, was indicted by a federal grand jury last week for alleged possession of computer disks containing child pornography and is awaiting arraignment. The indictment claims he had the disks at his Hilo residence.

A federal grand jury in September indicted Abregana's brother, Jay Abregana, also 31 and from Hilo, on charges of mailing disks containing child pornography and possessing child pornography. Jay Abregana pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment.

Elliot Enoki, U.S. attorney for the Hawaii District, said charges against the Abregana brothers resulted from an investigation that involved the U.S. Postal Inspection Service's child exploitation section in San Francisco, the Hawai'i County Police Department, the FBI and the U.S. Customs Service.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lawrence Tong is handling prosecution of the case.
