Tube Notes

MUST SEE: "Sweeney Todd in Concert: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," 9 p.m., PBS, or "Special Unit 2," 9 p.m. UPN (seen on KFVE) or "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), 3 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m., VH1. Maybe on Halloween the world will allow dark humor. Here are three choices that grown-ups can try after the trick-or-treating ends.

"Special Unit 2" always has a quirky view of its monster-filled universe. Tonight, dead serial killers are brought back to life. "Rocky Horror" is a dark-humor classic. A sweet couple — played by a then-youthful Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon — are stranded at a weird mansion inhabited by Tim Curry. In a theater filled with faithful fans this musical is wonderful. At home it's just OK.

Then there's "Sweeney Todd," in which brilliant composer Stephen Sondheim tackled the story of a violent barber in 18th-century London. His songs range from humor to deep, agonizing pain. George Hearn and Patti LuPone offer great Broadway voices as Sweeney and his lady. Others show up in support, including Neil Patrick Harris of "Doogie Howser."

"Gilmore Girls," 5 p.m., WB (seen on KFVE). Luke's teenage nephew arrives. Naturally, Rory is interested.

"Ed," 7 p.m., NBC. Evan Handler has been everywhere lately — from the "Three Stooges" movie to playing a handler (really) on "The West Wing." Tonight, the talented actor plays the bitter host of a children's show.

"Enterprise," 8 p.m., UPN (seen on KFVE). Archer (Scott Bakula) gets too interested in an old monastery, an interest that places his crew in danger.

"My Wife and Kids," 7 p.m., ABC. As punishment the kids face an all-pie diet.

"According to Jim," 7:30 p.m., ABC. The parents disagree about Halloween-night punishment.

"Law and Order," 9 p.m., NBC. Extreme housing troubles: A woman has been killed after her rent-controlled apartment blocked the sale of the building.
